No Moroccan team, Wartburgia comes

About a year ago, the tournament committee started working on getting FC Berrechid, multiple champion of Morocco to participate in this year's tournament. This happened in collaboration with the MaJo foundation in Alkmaar. The idea was to bring the team a week to the Netherlands to let them participate in the tournament, and to let them participate in a sports event for Moroccan girls in Alkmaar. We were very excited to get a club from a culture where sports is not an everyday thing for women, and to to introduce them to Dutch female football players.

A lot of work has been done behind the scenes, especially to finance their trip and to work on their schedule. A long time we were hopeful that FC Berrechid would join us, because the list of players already had arrived. We didn't factor in the fact that the Moroccan government had to give the green light as well. Even though we had intensive contacts with the consul general in Amsterdam, that decision was never made.

To prevent further delays in the preparations for this year's tournament, we decided to put an end to our efforts. Despite the many hours of work and despite the financial help from several sponsors, the tournament committee decided that waiting longer would not do the tournament any good. The one tournament place that was left is awarded to Wartburgia from Amsterdam. They play in the first class of Holland.

Participants 2010 announced

The organization has announced the participants for the fifteenth Plus International Women football tournament. Some changes had to be made after the cancellation of Shetland Womens FC. Due to the increased length of the Scottish competition because of the weather, the team is not able to make it this year. The foreign competitors in this years edition come from Germany, England and Morocco.

First foreign participants announced

The names of the first foreign participants are announced: Union Meppen (Germany), Leyton Ladies (England) and the selection Shetland WFC of the Shetland Islands (Scotland) will be present.

The organization is in negotiation with multiple foreign teams. Depending on these outcomes, the number of Dutch teams that can participage can be set. A small part of the subscribing Dutch teams already got approval of participation. The other teams got a notice that they\'re on the waiting list. Soon, the names of Dutch teams will be announced on this site.

Subscription open

Teams were waiting anxiously for the tournament information to come online. Somewhat later than planned, the subscription period has opened and the tournament information can be found on the website. Teams that wish to participate in the tournament on th 11th, 12th and 14th of June 2010 should download the subscription form, fill it in, and send it back to the organization by regular mail. From all subscriptions, the organization committee selects and invites teams based on playing strength, geographical location and use of accommodation.
